I Need You More

One of my first blogs, back in January 2014 (entitle “I Come Alive“) I shared my love for a song by Kari Jobe called “Run To You (I Need You)” and I described the lyrics as “the kind of prayer I want to pray all throughout the day, every day; it’s the kind of prayer that sets the day right – puts things into perspective and helps me keep my eyes fixed on Jesus.”

Well I’ve fallen in love with another song with a similar prayer.  This one is off Bethel Music’s album “Here Is Love”, it’s sung by Kim Walker (of Jesus Culture fame) and it’s called “I Need You More.” Continue reading

Embrace The Fall – A Prayer From The Hallway

Here’s a little prayer I wrote the other night, while in the midst of a very uncertain and uncomfortable time in my life.

Embrace The Fall: A Prayer From The Hallway

I will walk by faith, not by sight.
Cause I sure can’t see right now
Can’t see what’s ahead, what you have in store for me
Can’t see where you want me to go
Is there a decision for me to make? Or have you already made it,
And now I’m just waiting?

But I’ve heard you say to walk
So I’m stepping
Slowly stepping
Cautiously into the unknown
Feeling with my toes to see if peril’s pending

I have faith, Lord,
Help me walk by faith
I trust you, Lord,
Help me trust for real

It’s like I’m falling backwards, trusting that you’ll catch me
But this drop seems farther than expected
Are you really there?
Or is your plan for me to hit the ground
Then heal me when I break

Ok, God, as long as I know you’ll hold me when it hurts
I’ll embrace the fall, embrace the hard ground if I reach it
I’ll embrace the pain
If it will bring you glory, may your will be done, whatever it may be

I will praise you when the door slams in my face
I will praise you when a new door opens again
Or if you lead me to a window
Whether it’s to show me the pain you’re saving me from
Or if to glimpse what’s yet to come
If I’m here an hour, a year or just a day
I will praise you, even in the hallway

Glory In The Highest

I was struck by this song again today. I’ve loved it since I first heard it, and it means no less to me today than it did years ago. I love the space that is created within this song. Space to breath and to listen for God and to simply be still and know that He is God.

He is above all else. He is above your light and momentary troubles. He goes beyond the current circumstances, beyond this city, this country. He extends beyond this year, this century, this millennia. He is outside this time in history. He stretches out into eternity, His glory is over all the creation here on earth and in the universe. His glory is incredible! His glory shines forever. Praise be to the Lord!

Faith To Believe (Shane and Shane)

This Shane and Shane song has been a favorite since I got the album several months ago and I’ve just got to write about it and share it with you now.

One of my favorite passages in scripture is Mark 9:14-29 when Jesus heals a boy possessed by an impure spirit.  The boy’s father brings him to Jesus to be healed.  He explains the symptoms and passionately begs Jesus to heal his son.  He explains that he brought his son to Jesus’ disciples first but they were unable to heal the boy, and at this point in the man’s story Jesus interrupts and exclaims “you unbelieving generation! How long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you?”  Then the boy’s father asks Jesus, “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

IF?  IF you can do anything?  That’s almost a dare that God can’t resist!  I’m tempted to use this kind of statement next time I really want something from God… “Hey God, you probably can’t do this thing, it’s probably too difficult for you, but could you maybe try?”  Just to see God dramatically prove His sovereignty and majesty.  Continue reading
