Sweetly Broken; 2 Corinthians 9:1; Jesus Paid It All; Romans 3:23; 2 Cor. 5:17; Every Day
One of the best things about gathering together here at church is that we get to slow down and take some time to focus on what really matters – on the things that have eternal significance. We get to reset our minds and refocus our attention and fix our eyes back where they belong. So let’s take the next few minutes to focus on quite literally the crux of our faith – the cross, the crucifixion.
It’s not a pleasant thing to think about someone hanging on a cross, experiencing an excruciating death. Especially when it’s someone you love, and someone who is dying in your place. But Jesus said remember me – when we participate in the act of communion, we are commanded to remember His broken and bloodied body. When we allow ourselves to experience the depths of His death, we are able to experience the heights of His resurrection and the joy that comes in living with a resurrected Savior!
So go ahead and let yourself go there. Remember…remember that it’s for YOUR sin that He died.
Lord, as we consider the priceless gift you’ve given to us, this undeserved eternal life which you bought for us at a very high price on a cross, we come humbly into your presence and sit at your feet to worship You.
2 Corinthians 9:15 Now thanks be to God for His Gift, [precious] beyond telling [His indescribable, inexpressible, free Gift]! (amplified bible)
We have been set free!! If you’re not already standing, will you stand with us in the presence of the one who paid our debt and set us free.
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. We owe a debt we cannot pay, but Jesus already paid it! He paid it in full. The debt is cancelled! Praise the Lord!
And that’s not the end of the good news!
2 Cor. 5:17 says “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone and the new is here!”
As a friend of mine puts it: Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good. He came to make dead people alive!
I was dead in my sin, but then He came in!!
We were broken, and unable to fix ourselves. We were dead in our sins, we could not raise ourselves from the dead. There was no way out – but what we were powerless to do in ourselves, God did! He made a way where there was no way – there was NO way!!
If you haven’t yet accepted the free gift of God, if you’re still trying to pay for your sins, don’t leave this room today without talking to God and asking for the forgiveness he’s offering. Let Jesus pay your debt. Become a new creation! Alive in Christ!
