Of the 10,000 reasons or more that we have to praise His holy name I want to focus us on one in particular right now. And that is the fact that, as Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

I know that many of you are facing trouble right now. And I want to encourage you that you have a refuge and an ever-present help in God.

In John 14 Jesus said, “27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

That is a pretty great offer, right? To have the peace of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit? That sounds like some pretty solid peace. Better than any peace I could come up with on my own. The author of this next songs seems to have grasped that peace of Jesus and I pray that you too will begin to experience the peace of Jesus even as you sing the words “when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.”

Thank you Jesus! We could never say it enough. There’s nothing we could do to earn or deserve what you did for us. But we receive it and we give you’re the best of our praise. Thank you, Lord.”

We can give glory to God and we can thank the Lord in many ways. One of my favorite of course is through song, and singing his praise. But another of my favorite ways to express to God how grateful I am for all that He’s done is by bringing my tithes and offerings to Him. And we do that together during our worship services each week because it is an act of worship. So the ushers will be passing the offering bags down the rows in just a minute as we sing this next song.

We sang earlier about the peace that we find in Holy Spirit and that no matter what our circumstances are, it is well with our souls.

And I want to follow that up remembering that even when we’re surrounded by darkness, or surrounded by enemies, and even if we’re walking through the valley of the shadow of death, our God is with us, and he is bigger and stronger than anything else around us.
